Prime Minister’s Crop Insurance Scheme offers an opportunity to benefit from ₹1 Crop Insurance
The government has introduced the Prime Minister’s Crop Insurance Scheme, allowing farmers to secure their crops for just ₹1 during the current Kharif season. This scheme, effective from the 2023-24 Kharif season until the 2025-26 Rabi season, aims to provide comprehensive coverage against crop losses due to natural calamities, pests, and diseases.

The objectives of the scheme are to encourage the use of innovative and improved tillage technologies and inputs, to maintain continuity of credit to the agricultural sector, so as to protect farmers from production risks, diversification of food security crops and to achieve the objective of dynamic development and increase in competitiveness of the agricultural sector, etc.

Pay just 1 rupee to register:
In this scheme, farmers have to register on the crop insurance portal by paying only 1 rupee per application. After deducting the insurance premium of 1 rupee, the remaining difference will be paid through the state government as general insurance premium subsidy. The insurance company will accept liability up to 110 percent of the total accumulated insurance premium in the district group in a year. However, if the amount of crop insurance compensation payable in a year is more than 110 percent of the accumulated insurance premium, the State Government will accept the excess burden of 110 percent.
Scheme Features:
- Voluntary participation for specified crops and areas.
- Eligibility extended to farmers cultivating by lease or clan.
- Risk coverage set at 70% for all crops.
- Premium rates capped at 2% for Kharif, 1.5% for Rabi, and 5% for cash crops.
- Farmers need only pay ₹1 for registration on the crop insurance portal.
- Remaining premium subsidized by the state government.
Risk Coverage Includes:
- Losses due to adverse weather conditions, pests, diseases, and natural calamities.
- Post-harvest losses caused by natural events.
Crop-Specific Details for Pune District:
- Paddy, Jwari, Millet, Nachini, Tur, Moong, Udid, Groundnut, Soybean, and Onion covered.
- Sum insured and premium rates vary by crop and region.
