Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the two-day Global Millets (Shri Anna) Conference under the International Year of Millets 2023. On this occasion, Modi ji unveiled a postage stamp and currency coin on the International Year of Millets (IYM)-2023. Along with this, Shri Modi inaugurated the Indian Millet Research Institute as the Shri Anna Global Center of Excellence on the occasion of the inauguration of the Global Milletus (Shri Anna) conference.

During this, he said, “The organization of the Global Millets (Shri Anna) Conference shows the commitment and seriousness of India and today I am proud that India is leading the ‘International Millets Year’.”

PM Modi further praised Shri Anna Yojana and encouraged the farmers to cultivate natural and Shri Anna. Further, Shri Modi said that Shree Anna is a major base of chemical-free farming and it also proves helpful in tackling the challenge of natural climate change. Along with this, the tribal society of the country will also be felicitated by Shri Anna.

To promote millets, Shri Modi said, “In view of the global branding and common branding of millets, millets have been recognized as Mr. Anna in India. Where there is Shri, there is also prosperity and wholeness.”

Modi described the purpose of Shri Anna Sammelan: “The Government of India aims to make this global Shri Anna Sammelan a mass movement for the overall benefit of farmers, consumers, and the climate. To take this forward, a multi-stakeholder collaborative approach is to be adopted to achieve the goals of IVMM-2023 being run by the Government of India and to establish India as the ‘Global Hub of Millets’.

Various national and international campaigns are being run by the government to adopt and promote coarse grains in Shri Anna year 2023 so that Shri Anna can again become a part of our diet.
