Amsterdam/ New Delhi, Nov 18, 2024-The World Agriculture Forum (WAF) has added two eminent leaders Dr. Ameenah Gurib-Fakim – the former President of Mauritius and internationally acclaimed scientist, and Mr. Carlos Magariños- Argentine diplomat and a global economic strategist to its Board of Directors. We expect their visionary leadership and expertise to be indispensable in advancing WAF’s mission of promoting sustainable agricultural development through innovations, shaping policy agenda, and global development partnerships.

Dr Gurib-Fakim has extensive experience as an international scientist, and an advocate for biodiversity, and was the first female President of Mauritius. For her work, she has been awarded the L’Oreal-UNESCO Prize for Women in Science and has been named one of Forbes’ 100 Most-Powerful Women in the World ever since. On her appointment, Dr Gurib-Fakim commented: “Agriculture is at a crucial juncture, with unprecedented challenges that require imaginative and scientific solutions. I look forward to contributing to WAF’s vision for a resilient and food-secure world. It also needs global collaborations to tackle the climate change challenge with a sense of urgency to safeguard future generations, she added.
Mr. Carlos Magariños is one of the most transformative leaders of UNIDO, the youngest ever Director-General at 35, and author of 10 books on economic innovation; His career includes key positions, such as Argentina under Secretary for Industry and Ambassador to Brazil.
