Uttar Pradesh is becoming an increasingly important state for maize farmers. The state government is making every effort to encourage them, increase their income, and help them rise. Towards that end, the “Rapid Maize Development Scheme” and Minimum Support Price (MSP) procurement have been introduced. Also, subsidies for dryer machines are given by the government. The subsidies are intended to help maize.
If you’re a farmer, taking up scientific maize management methods and government subsidies can help you make several hundred yuan more a year in income. Here’s how…
Subsidy on Dryer Machine
Because maize has 25% moisture at harvest, a government subsidy of up to ₹12 lakh was introduced to dry publishers.
Whenever maize is picked, it contains 30% moisture. Without proper drying, the crops can easily develop fungi. In order to avoid this, the government has given a subsidy of up to ₹12 lakh on dryer machines.
Subsidy on gas popper machines: ₹ 10,000. Apart from this, subsidies are also being provided for various kinds of machines, from sowing to processing.
Maize Farmers in UP to Get ₹15,000 Subsidy Per Quintal on Seeds
The Uttar Pradesh government is encouraging maize cultivation to help farmers play well. Under the “Rapid Maize Development Scheme,” every quintal of maize seeds farmers get a ₹15,000 subsidy. This scheme includes hybrid maize, sweet corn, desi popcorn, plots, and baby corn.
The government is currently promoting popcorn, baby corn, and sweet corn farming in tourist areas as crops because they are popular with foreign visitors and can be a source of income for this region’s tourists.
Maize production goal by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath:
Maize production in Uttar Pradesh is to be increased to 27.30 million metric tons by 2027.
The government will achieve this by:
Expanding the planting area
Making an output of greater value
In the 2023-24 financial year, an amount of ₹27.68 crore has been budgeted for maize production.
Uttar Pradesh currently has a planting area of 830,000 hectares, and production is 2.116 million tons. The government’s strategy is to educate farmers via the Indian Maize Institute, part of the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), in modern agricultural techniques.
Maize’s Many Uses :
Not only is maize a food grain, but it is also a multifunctional crop important to both industry and nutrition. It is used in various fields with wide application, such as:
- Ethanol production
- Poultry and animal feed
- The pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries
- Paper, textiles, and alcoholic drinks
- Food items such as popcorn, baby corn, and cornmeal
Maize can be planted in all three seasons: Rabi, Kharif, or Zaid. It is planted in a well-drained area, so this crop is more profitable for the farmer compared with others.
Focus on Growing Big, Lush Maize :
Yogi’s government has been providing farmers with high-quality seeds, advanced planting methods, and training in order to push the yield of their maize fields up to 100 quintals per hectare.
- Tamil Nadu’s maize yield—59.39 quintals per hectare
- India’s average yield is 26 quintals per hectare
- Uttar Pradesh’s average yield (2021-22) is 21.63 quintals per hectare.
- The government aims to double the yield of maize in Uttar Pradesh so that the farmer earns more.
