Chief Minister’s Horticulture Mission
The Chief Minister Horticulture Mission is a strategic initiative to improve the economic condition of farmers by promoting the cultivation of high-value crops like dragon fruit. Under the Dragon Fruit Development Scheme, dragon fruit plants will be cultivated in 21 districts over three years. Currently, large-scale dragon fruit farming is already underway in Katihar, Purnia, and Kishanganj. With the rising demand for dragon fruit, the government has prepared a Detailed Project Report (DPR) to expand its cultivation.
Financial Assistance and Subsidy Details
The total cost of dragon fruit cultivation is estimated at Rs 7.5 lakh. The Bihar government will provide a 40% subsidy, amounting to Rs 3 lakh, which will be disbursed in three installments. Farmers will need to purchase the planting materials themselves and apply online to avail of the benefits. The application process is based on a “first come, first serve” basis, with priority given to the general category and specific participation targets for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and women.
Farmers interested in availing of the subsidy must apply through the DBT portal by visiting horticulture.bihar.gov.in. The scheme ensures that 78.56% of participants are from the general category, 20% from Scheduled Castes, 1.44% from Scheduled Tribes, and 30% are women.
