A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on Monday by the ICAR-Indian Institute of Millets Research (IIMR), Hyderabad, and IFFCO Kisan virtually to promote biofortified Pearl Millet cultivars through FPOs in Karnataka’s Koppal district (5 September).
The farmer-producer groups in Telangana, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh will receive seeds, technological orientation, advise distribution, and capacity building on the packaging of biofortified seeds in terms of nutritional content and its advantages thanks to this mutual agreement.
The ICAR-IIMR Institute will connect farmers and FPOs with the knowledge partner IFFCO Kisan, according to Dr. C. V. Ratnavathi, Director of the Institute. Dr. Ratnavathi emphasised the importance of spreading knowledge about millets’ nutritional benefits and bio-fortified seeds.
According to IFFCO Kisan’s COO, Praveer Srivastava, the company will provide seeds and guarantee the best price for the buyback of Pearl Millet from FPOs at the farm gate by duplicating its pilot initiative in the districts of Karnataka, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh.
According to Siddharth Bhattacharya, Lead – Partner Relationships at IFFCO Kisan, we will work with the ICAR-IIMR to onboard farmers and FPOs, provide trainings, build capacity on better package practises, provide shareholders of FPOs with technology orientation and seed, and improve market connections for farmers.
