Power Pole and Lines on Your Land
If farmers have electricity poles or lines running through their agricultural land, they are entitled to certain benefits and compensation. Unfortunately, many farmers are unaware of these rights and miss out on their entitlements.

Provision for New Electricity Connections
There’s a special provision for farmers needing new electricity connections. Once you apply, the electricity company must provide the connection within 30 days. If there’s a delay, farmers are entitled to a compensation of Rs 100 per week.
Repair of Transformers
If the transformer in your area breaks down, the electricity company is required to repair it within 48 hours. If they fail to do so, farmers can demand compensation of Rs 50 per day.
Option for Additional Meter
Farmers can also install their own separate meter in the agricultural field alongside the electricity company’s meter. In this case, the electricity company or state electricity board must cover the cost of connecting both meters.
Provision for Ground Rent
If electric poles, wires, or transformers are installed on your farmland, the electricity company must pay you annual rent. This rent can range from Rs 2 to Rs 5000 per acre. However, if you have given a no objection certificate, you will not receive this rent.
Awareness and Access to Benefits
Despite these provisions, many farmers are not fully aware of their rights under the Electricity Act. The government and agricultural departments are working to spread awareness and ensure that farmers know how to claim these benefits. Workshops, helplines, and information campaigns are being set up to educate farmers about their entitlements.
Steps to Claim Compensation
To claim compensation, farmers need to keep a record of their applications and any delays in service. They should contact their local electricity board or use online portals to file for compensation. Ensuring timely communication and documentation can help farmers receive their rightful dues without unnecessary delays.
This updated legislation ensures farmers are fairly compensated for the use of their land and helps them stay informed about their rights. If you have an electric pole or transformer on your land, make sure to claim your entitled benefits.
