Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister, Mr. Shivraj Singh Chouhan, announced several key initiatives to benefit farmers in Bihar. These decisions were made during a high-level meeting with Bihar’s Agriculture Minister, Mr. Mangal Pandey, at Krishi Bhawan, New Delhi.

Key Decisions for Bihar Farmers:
- APEDA Office in Bihar: Mr. Chouhan approved the opening of an Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) office in Krishi Bhawan, Bihar. This move aims to boost agricultural exports from the state and facilitate better access and services for farmers, enhancing their market reach.
- Support for Hybrid-Advanced Seeds: The Union Minister directed the Agriculture Ministry to provide assistance in supplying hybrid-advanced seeds to farmers in Bihar, a key step in improving crop productivity and ensuring food security.
- Increased Funding for Agricultural Schemes: Responding to Bihar’s request, Mr. Chouhan immediately approved the release of the second installment of the National Agriculture Development Scheme for the state. He also assured more funds would be allocated for the Krishonnati Yojana, a scheme designed to promote agricultural development and innovation.
- Upgrading Maize Research Centres: Bihar’s Regional Maize Research and Seed Production Centre, under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), will be modernized to better meet the needs of farmers. Mr. Chouhan directed officials to upgrade the centre with state-of-the-art technology.
- Support for Litchi and Honey Farmers: Bihar, known for its litchi and honey production, will receive additional support. Guidelines were issued to help farmers involved in these industries, with the aim of increasing productivity and market value.
- Strengthening NRC Makhana: The National Research Centre (NRC) for Makhana will be empowered to provide more support to makhana farmers in Bihar, benefiting one of the region’s most renowned agricultural products.
