Innovative Farming Turns Dreams into Reality
Stinnu Jain, a progressive farmer from Abohar, Punjab, has redefined modern agriculture through innovation and dedication. From relying on traditional methods six years ago to harvesting an impressive 1,200 quintals of Kinnow annually on 8 acres, Stinnu’s journey is a beacon of hope for aspiring farmers. Stinnu, who cultivates 20 acres of land, with 8 acres dedicated to Kinnow, began his journey with minimal knowledge of modern farming. Through perseverance and learning, he has optimized his methods, showcasing how strategic planning and sustainable practices can lead to remarkable success.

Perfecting Kinnow Cultivation
Stinnu emphasizes maintaining soil pH at 6.6 and ensuring temperatures stay below 35°C for ideal crop growth. He advocates planting Kinnow during August and September after pre-preparing pits to eliminate soil insects and excess heat. His meticulous spacing techniques—20×20 ft. for standard orchard management and 20×10 ft. for high-density farming—maximize yield potential.

Embracing Organic and Efficient Fertilizers
To boost soil health and reduce costs, Stinnu incorporates cow dung manure processed with Zydex’s Godhan, which accelerates composting to just 40-50 days. Additionally, Zytonic-M helps him reduce manure requirements to one ton per acre, enhancing fruit quality and soil fertility.
Modern Fertilizer and Irrigation Techniques
Stinnu employs uniform sprinkling of fertilizers for optimized plant development. For irrigation, he uses the flood method while avoiding waterlogging to safeguard his crops. To enhance tree longevity and fruit quality, Stinnu delays the initial harvest to the fourth year. By the sixth year, his trees yield up to 2–2.5 quintals each, with productivity continuing for 35–40 years under proper care.
Stinnu maintains soil fertility through mixed cropping, cultivating mustard, moong, and other small crops alongside Kinnow. This approach conserves soil and generates additional income, making his farming model both sustainable and economically viable.
Low Costs, High Returns
With a production cost of approximately ₹40,000 per acre and an average yield of 150–170 quintals per acre, Stinnu’s innovative techniques ensure higher-quality produce and premium pricing. This translates to significant annual profits. To reduce waste, Stinnu converts excess plants into green manure using a rotavator, enhancing soil health. Effective pest control measures, particularly against fruit flies, ensure high yields.
A Role Model for Farmers Nationwide
