The Desi Cow Research and Training Centre in the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairy Science, Pune College of Agriculture, is launching a three-month training program on Sustainable Indigenous Cow Husbandry. This initiative, set to begin on 1st December 2024, offers a unique opportunity for aspiring individuals to gain in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience in managing indigenous cow breeds.

Training Program Overview
The program focuses on various aspects of indigenous cow husbandry, including:
- Daily animal management
- Year-round green fodder planning
- Balanced diets for animals
- Utilization of medicinal plants in animal feed
- Milk and milk product production
- Dung and cow urine processing
- Organic manure production (including vermicomposting)
- Cattle breeding and dairying as a business
- Use of technology such as artificial intelligence and IoT in dairy management
Trainees will also learn about integrated project management, the use of modern machinery, the importance of salt minerals, and techniques for processing organic biological mixtures.
Indigenous Cow Breeds Under Study
The centre has preserved several indigenous cow breeds known for their adaptability, milk productivity, and resilience, including:
- Sahiwal, Gir, Tharparkar, Lal Sindhi, and Rathi
- Maharashtra-native breeds like Khilar, Dangi, Konkan Kapila, Lal Kandhari, Devni, and Gavlau
- The famous small-sized Punganur cow from India
The program emphasizes breeding technologies such as artificial insemination, the use of sex-specified semen, and embryo implantation.

- Candidates must have passed Class 10th.
- Open to residents of Maharashtra.
Batch Size: Limited to 10 trainees (first-come, first-served).
Training Fee: ₹2,700 per month.
