Govt. set to empower 3 crore women farmers as ‘Krishi Sakhi’
In an ambitious effort to revolutionise India’s agricultural sector, the government has launched a program that puts women at the forefront of extension services. The ‘Krishi Sakhi Convergence Program’ (KSCP), a collaboration between the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare and the Ministry of Rural Development, aims to create a cadre of 3 crore ‘Lakhpati Didi’ (Women Millionaires), with Krishi Sakhi – friends of agriculture, playing a key role. This initiative is a landmark in empowering rural women and transforming the agricultural sector.

Training and Empowering ‘Krishi Sakhi’
Despite their significant contributions, females in agriculture have been underutilised and undervalued in extension services that promote technological adoption and productivity. The 56-day program designed for Krishi Sakhi covers various modules, including agro-ecological practices, integrated farming systems, soil health management, livestock care, and basic communication skills.
Eligibility Criteria
- All women from rural areas of any state of India are eligible for this scheme.
- Women from economically weaker sections of the country are eligible for this scheme.
- Women whose age is 18 years, or more are eligible for this scheme.
- Women whose family members are income taxpayers or government employees are not eligible for this scheme.
Registration Process
The details of the process for women to do Krishi Sakhi Yojana 2024 Online Registration started by the central government of the country are as follows:
- First of all, go to your nearest agriculture department office.
- Get information about this scheme from the employees present there and get the application form.
- Now enter all the necessary details asked in this application form correctly and attach all the documents asked with this application form.
- Now submit this application form along with all the documents in the same agriculture office.
- Now your application form will be checked, if you are considered eligible in it, then you will be provided agriculture-related training under this scheme.
Earning Potential:
After rigorous training and proficiency testing, certified Krishi Sakhis will offer various paid services to farmers under central schemes. Their activities include soil sample collection, organizing Farmer Field Schools, establishing seed banks, promoting integrated farming systems, and facilitating credit and crop insurance linkages. The resource fees that Krishi Sakhis can earn are substantial. On average, they can make between ₹60,000 to ₹80,000 per year, which is life-changing for rural female farmer.
Phase 1 already started:
The phase 1 of the Krishi Sakhi Yojana has been rolled out in 12 states including, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Rajasthan, Meghalaya, Andhra Pradesh and Jharkhand.
Focus on ‘Aatmanirbhar Krishi’
Additionally, the initiative aligns with the government’s broader vision of ‘Aatmanirbhar Krishi’ (self-reliant agriculture), aiming to empower farmers and reduce dependency on external inputs. By equipping Krishi Sakhis with skills in integrated farming, seed sovereignty, and value addition, the program fosters self-sufficiency and entrepreneurship at the grassroots level.
