August 2026 Tractor Sales Report: FADA Records 87,977 Tractor Retail Sales

The Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) has released its August 2026 vehicle retail data. According to the report, tractor retail sales reached 87,977 units during August 2026.

Tractor sales increased marginally by 0.84% year-on-year compared with 87,244 units in August 2025. However, sales declined sharply by 25.03% month-on-month from 1,17,349 units recorded in July 2026.

Tractor sales remain almost flat in August

The August 2026 Tractor Sales performance remained almost flat compared with the previous year. FADA linked the weak monthly performance to rural and monsoon-related stress.

The all-India rainfall deficit widened to around 13% during the month. As a result, tractor retail sales recorded a significant monthly decline despite remaining slightly higher year-on-year.

Mahindra leads tractor retail sales

Mahindra & Mahindra recorded the highest tractor retail sales among the listed manufacturers. Its tractor division sold 20,703 units, compared with 20,159 units in August 2025.

The company held a 23.53% market share during August 2026. Swaraj Division followed with 15,914 units and an 18.09% market share.

International Tractors Limited ranked third with 11,818 units and a 13.43% market share. TAFE recorded 10,780 units, while Escorts Kubota reported 9,756 units during the month.

Tractor sales decline 25.03% from July

August tractor retail sales fell considerably compared with July 2026. FADA reported sales of 1,17,349 units in July, compared with 87,977 units in August.

This represents a 25.03% monthly decline. The fall was much sharper than the year-on-year movement, highlighting the impact of seasonal and monsoon conditions on tractor demand.

FY27 tractor sales show strong growth

Despite the August slowdown, tractor retail sales maintained strong growth during the first five months of FY2027. FADA recorded 4,77,861 tractor units from April to August 2026.

The figure was 3,97,146 units during the corresponding period of FY2026. Therefore, tractor retail sales grew by 20.32% year-on-year during the FY27 period.

Rural demand remains important

Tractors continue to have a strong connection with rural demand and agricultural activity. FADA’s August data showed that rural areas accounted for 82.1% of tractor retail strength, while urban areas accounted for 17.9%.

However, the tractor category recorded a 24.43% month-on-month decline in rural areas. Urban tractor retail also declined by 27.64% during the same period.

Outlook for tractor sales

The August performance shows that tractor demand faced short-term pressure from monsoon conditions. However, the strong FY27 year-to-date growth provides a positive base for the agricultural vehicle market.

FADA expects the upcoming festive period to support overall vehicle demand. However, rainfall conditions and rural purchasing power will remain important factors for tractor sales in the coming months.
