Initiative for Green Energy
With the use of the technology introduced by Mahindra Susten for this Solar Energy Project, clean energy will be going to four Swaraj Tractor plants two in Mohali and two at Dera Bassi. It is expected that the project will generate around 60 million kWh a year in renewable power, offsetting some 54,600 tonnes of CO₂ emissions.
This initiative not only reinforces the Mahindra Group‘s commitment to sustainability and fighting climate change—it also sets a new standard for green energy utilization in tractor manufacturing.
Perspectives of professionals in the industry
Hemant Sikka, Farm Equipment Sector President for Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, commented to the effect that, “With this innovative solar energy project, we are setting a new benchmark in India for incorporating green power on such a large scale into tractor manufacturing. In every respect, it is perfectly in line with our mission to Transform Agriculture and Enrich Lives and thus contribute to future sustainability.”
Gaganjot Singh, CEO of Swaraj Division, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., echoed this sentiment, stating, “This solar project represents our steadfast commitment to a cleaner and more desirable future. With the praiseworthy assistance of Mahindra Susten, we are fully confident of meeting our goals when it comes to renewables and contributing substantially towards Punjab’s changing energy landscape.”
Swaraj Tractors to Achieve 100% Renewable Energy with New Solar Plant
This project also signified Mahindra Susten’s move into another state: Punjab. As ever, their business operations are being carried out on an all-India basis. Now Mahindra Susten Private Limited, Managing Director and CEO Deepak Thakur, emphasized, “At Mahindra Susten, our vision is to deliver clean and efficient energy solutions to the Commercial and Industrial (C&I) sectors, and that is why we are developing custom power plants for each particular C&I customer need. We are delighted to support Swaraj Tractors on their sustainable journey by contributing all the skills of our renewable energy engineers to Punjab. Together, our intentions are to help make India’s transition to a renewable future all the smoother.”
As early as in 2012, the Mahindra Group committed to making 100% use of renewable energy—it was the first in India to do so and remains dedicated to upholding its track record for sustainability, innovation, and trendsetting.
