Training and Certification
Several states, including Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, are actively involved in providing drone training. The Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture (CSA), Kanpur, is launching a 7-day training course for 10th-grade pass students and other individuals associated with agriculture. The course will be offered at a significantly reduced fee of ₹9,300, covering both training and accommodation costs. This initiative includes a 50% discount on the standard fee of ₹65,000, as per DGCA regulations. After completing the training, participants will receive a certification that also serves as a license for operating drones.
Government Initiatives
The Rajasthan government, through the SKN Agriculture University, Jobner, is offering a 6-day residential drone training program at a subsidized fee. Originally priced at ₹50,000, the training will now cost only ₹9,300, which includes ₹5,000 for the training itself and ₹4,300 for accommodation and food. Interested candidates can apply through the Raj Kisan Sathi portal or the Raj Kisan Suvidha app, or by visiting their local agricultural department.
Benefits of Agricultural Drones
Agricultural drones are revolutionizing farming by reducing costs and improving efficiency. According to Dr. C.L. Maurya from CSA University, drones are primarily used for spraying pesticides and fertilizers and conducting soil mapping. They can complete these tasks in a fraction of the time required for manual methods, significantly reducing labor costs and minimizing the waste of inputs.
Career Opportunities
The demand for skilled drone operators is on the rise. Those trained in drone operations can pursue various career paths, including:
- Entrepreneurship: Like tractor operators who offer ploughing and harvesting services, drone operators can start their own businesses, providing services to local farmers.
- Government Jobs: Opportunities exist within agricultural departments, institutions, and universities.
- Private Sector: Private companies hire drone operators for surveying, mapping, and other specialized tasks, offering competitive salaries.
- With the increasing adoption of drones in agriculture, this field promises substantial career opportunities and growth prospects for young individuals.
Current Trends in Drone Technology
The use of agricultural drones is revolutionizing farming practices by making tasks such as pesticide and fertilizer application more efficient. Traditional methods often require multiple workers and several hours, whereas drones can complete these tasks in a fraction of the time, with fewer resources. This advancement not only cuts down on labour costs but also reduces the wastage of inputs.
The emphasis on drone technology reflects the broader trend towards modernization in agriculture. With the Indian government’s support and the increasing adoption of such technologies, the agricultural sector is poised for significant transformation, providing new career avenues for the younger generation.
