To create buffer stocks of onions and pulses and to check price volatility in the commodities Rs 2,700 crore fund allocated to the price stabilization for 2021-2022.

The allocation of funds this year is 35% more than Rs 2,000 crore and 77% less than the expenditure of Rs 11,800 crore in the last year 2020-2021.

The government has planned to increase the procurement of 50% more onions next year. This plan is taken by seeing the shortage of onions during the previous year.

The official also stated that “ We will start procuring onions from March-April for the buffer stock. Onions produced in winter are better suited for storage. In 2020-21, 25,000 tonnes of onions in buffer stock got damaged due to moisture loss.”

Rs 200 million tonnes of pulses were distributed to control the prices by creating a buffer stock.
