A Boon for Farmers Starting Today, October 1 

In a significant move aimed at supporting farmers, the Yogi government in Uttar Pradesh has confirmed the start of its coarse grain procurement program. Starting from October 1, 2024, the state will purchase crops like jowar (sorghum), bajra (pearl millet), maize, and ragi (finger millet) directly from farmers at Minimum Support Price (MSP). This initiative is expected to benefit millions of farmers across the state by ensuring fair prices for their produce. 

The government has also increased the MSP for coarse grains, a crucial step in safeguarding farmers’ incomes. Farmers will be able to sell their crops to the state until December 31, 2024, offering them a much-needed financial boost.

Key Details of the Procurement Plan 

From October 1 to December 31, 2024, the UP government will buy coarse grains from registered farmers. The crops included in this program are: 

• Jowar (Sorghum) 

• Bajra (Pearl Millet) 

• Maize 

• Ragi (Finger Millet) 

The initiative aims to stabilize the market and provide a safety net for farmers, especially those growing coarse grains that often fetch lower prices in the open market. 

MSP for Coarse Grains 

The state government has announced the following MSP rates for coarse grains: 

• Maize: ₹2,225 per quintal 

• Bajra: ₹2,625 per quintal 

• Jowar (Hybrid): ₹3,371 per quintal 

• Jowar (Maldandi): ₹3,421 per quintal 

This increase in MSP is particularly beneficial for farmers, as it guarantees a minimum income despite market fluctuations. The new rates ensure that farmers get fair value for their hard work and reduce their reliance on market prices, which can often be unpredictable. 

How Farmers Can Register for the Scheme? 

To participate in the scheme, farmers must register themselves with the Uttar Pradesh Food and Logistics Department. Registration can be done online through the official website fcs.up.gov.in or via the UP Kisan Mitra mobile app. The registration process is already live, allowing farmers ample time to complete it before the procurement begins. 

Steps to Register: 

1. Visit the website fcs.up.gov.in or download the UP Kisan Mitra mobile app. 

2. Provide the required details such as Aadhar number, land records, and bank account information. 

3. After successful registration, farmers will be eligible to sell their coarse grains directly to the government at MSP rates. 

This digital registration ensures transparency and eliminates middlemen, enabling farmers to receive the full benefit of the MSP without unnecessary deductions. 

Districts to Benefit from Procurement 

Farmers in various districts across Uttar Pradesh will directly benefit from the government’s purchase of coarse grains. Below is a list of districts covered for different crops: 

• Jowar: Farrukhabad, Ghazipur, Ballia, Mirzapur, Jalaun, Prayagraj, Jaunpur, Fatehpur, Kanpur Nagar, Hardoi, and others. 

• Maize: Badaun, Bulandshahr, Aligarh, Kasganj, Firozabad, Bahraich, Sonbhadra, Lalitpur, and more. 

• Bajra: Bareilly, Shahjahanpur, Rampur, Sambhal, Amroha, Mathura, Etawah, Auraiya, and others. 

This comprehensive list ensures that farmers in key agricultural districts are covered, helping them sell their produce without the pressure of market prices.
