Affordable Beekeeping Equipment for Farmers in Haryana
In a significant move to support beekeeping farmers in Haryana, the state’s Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister, Mr. Kanwar Pal, announced that beekeeping equipment will now be available at affordable rates. The state government has taken steps to fix the prices of this equipment, addressing a longstanding demand from farmers for standardized quality and pricing. The announcement was made following a High-Power Purchase Committee (HPPC) meeting, where rates were finalized for equipment worth approximately Rs. 6.5 crore.

Flourishing Beekeeping Industry in Haryana
Mr. Kanwar Pal, who also serves as the Chairman of the HPPC, highlighted the success of the beekeeping industry in Haryana, attributing its growth over the past decade to the state government’s farmer-friendly policies. He noted that many farmers have diversified into beekeeping, particularly as a means to supplement their income, given the challenges of low agricultural land holdings. Last year, beekeepers in Haryana produced 5,000 metric tons of honey, valued at around Rs. 55 crore in the market.
Subsidies and Support for Beekeepers
The agriculture minister emphasized that the state government provides an 80 percent subsidy to beekeepers for purchasing honey collection and other related equipment. He acknowledged the challenges faced by farmers, including the unavailability of quality beekeeping equipment in the market, which has often been either expensive or of poor quality, negatively impacting farmers’ income.
Integrated Beekeeping Development Centre
Mr. Kanwar Pal also announced the establishment of an “Integrated Beekeeping Development Centre” in Ramnagar, Kurukshetra district. This centre, developed in collaboration with the governments of Israel and India, offers training and information related to beekeeping to farmers. To further assist beekeepers, the state government has decided to open shops with fixed prices at this centre, where farmers can easily access high-quality beekeeping equipment. Available items will include bee boxes, bee tool kits, bee brushes, bee gloves, bee feeders, queen bee cages, honey extraction machines, and other essential equipment.
Mobile App for real time updates
In addition to these initiatives, the Haryana government is also working on creating a mobile app that will provide real-time updates on the availability and pricing of beekeeping equipment. This app will be linked to the Integrated Beekeeping Development Centre and will help farmers make informed decisions about their purchases. Furthermore, the state plans to conduct regular workshops and training sessions at the centre, aimed at educating farmers on modern beekeeping techniques, disease management, and maximizing honey yield. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to make Haryana a leading state in honey production and beekeeping innovation.
High-Level Meeting Attendees
The announcement was made in the presence of key officials, including Additional Chief Secretary, Agriculture & Farmers Welfare Department, Mr. Raja Sekhar Vundru, Director Mr. Rajnarayan Kaushik, Special Secretary, Finance Department, Mr. Jaibir Singh Arya, and Special Department Head, Horticulture Directorate, Mr. Arjun Singh Saini, among others. The meeting underscored the state’s commitment to bolstering the beekeeping industry and ensuring that farmers have the resources they need to succeed.
