In a significant move to strengthen India’s agricultural sector, the Union Cabinet approved two major schemes on Thursday, October 3, aimed at supporting farmers and enhancing food security. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The two schemes, Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (PM-RKVY)<\/strong> and Krishonnati Yojana (KY)<\/strong>, are designed to promote sustainable agricultural practices and help India achieve self-sufficiency in food production. This initiative comes with a massive allocation of \u20b91,01,321 crore, signalling the government’s commitment to boosting the agricultural sector. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

These new schemes will consolidate various existing Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSS) under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare into two comprehensive programs. One of the key objectives of these new umbrella schemes is to ensure the long-term sustainability of India’s agriculture sector. The government is keen on addressing pressing issues such as nutrition security, climate resilience, and the development of value chains. By integrating private sector participation into the fold, the schemes aim to make agriculture more resilient to the impacts of climate change and market volatility. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The schemes also provide states with the flexibility to design their agricultural development strategies based on their specific needs. A government statement confirmed that state governments will now be able to draw up comprehensive strategic plans that suit their regional requirements.
