Bajra Cultivation Farmers can grow it without water and fertilizer<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n

Pearl millet cultivation during the monsoon season in drought-prone areas is proving highly beneficial for farmers. Bajra millet is considered good not only as a grain but also for fodder; its fodder is highly nutritious. So according to Agri-experts this Kharif, farmers can start planting pearl millet during the first rains of the monsoon season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Agriculture expert Dr. NC Tripathi, pearl millet crops can be grown in areas with low water or even drought conditions. The government is encouraging farmers to cultivate pearl millet, providing them with mini seed kits<\/a><\/strong>. Pearl millet crops are ready in 65 to 70 days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. NC Tripathi, an agriculture expert from the Agricultural Science Centre, Niamatpur, mentioned that the government is also encouraging farmers to cultivate pearl millet. Farmers do not need much irrigation or excessive use of fertilizers for pearl millet cultivation. Pearl millet cultivation is highly suitable for sandy loam and loamy soils. The field where pearl millet is cultivated should not have water stagnation; proper drainage is essential. Before the rain, use a disc harrow or double ploughing with a plough that turns the soil. After that, level the field by harrowing it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bajra Millet Time frame<\/strong>:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Varieties of pearl millet that take longer to mature, which should be sown in the first week of July, take 80 to 90 days to mature. Varieties that mature in the mid-period, taking 70 to 80 days to mature, should be sown by July 10. Early-maturing varieties, which mature in 65 to 70 days, should be sown between July 10 and July 20. For sowing pearl millet, 4 to 5 kilograms of seeds per hectare are required. When sowing in rows, maintain a distance of 45 to 50 centimetres between lines and 10 to 15 centimetres between plants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The experts have suggested that, to ensure strong plants and good growth of pearl millet, use 5 tons of composted manure or vermicompost. Additionally, when sowing, use about 44 kilograms of urea, 250 kilograms of single superphosphate, and 87 kilograms of DAP per hectare. Adjust the amount of fertilizers based on soil testing results. In case of rain, use 40 kilograms of nitrogen and 40 kilograms of phosphorus per hectare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Govt.\u2019s Support<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The government’s support includes distributing mini seed kits to farmers, further incentivizing them to adopt pearl millet cultivation. This initiative aims not only to bolster food security but also to enhance soil health in arid regions. Pearl millet serves dual purposes as both a staple grain and a nutritious fodder, crucial for sustaining livestock during dry spells.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Farmers are advised to prepare the land meticulously, ensuring proper drainage to avoid water stagnation, which can adversely affect crop health. By employing sustainable farming practices and utilizing organic compost alongside judicious application of fertilizers based on soil testing, farmers can optimize pearl millet yields effectively. This concerted effort by the government underscores a commitment to agricultural sustainability amidst challenging climatic conditions, offering hope for resilient farming practices across India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
