Govt. Announces Insurance Coverage for 17 Fruit Crops across 56 Districts<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

The Maharashtra state government has announced a new fruit crop insurance scheme to support farmers against losses due to unseasonal rain and adverse weather. This scheme will provide insurance cover for eight fruit crops in the \u2018Mrig Bahar\u2019 season and nine fruit crops in the \u2018Ambia Bahar’ season. According to official sources, the scheme will be rolled out in a total of 56 districts across the state, wherein Mrig Bahar will be applicable in 26 districts and Ambia Bahar in 30 districts, with coverage amounts per hectare that include protection against hail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Covered Crops and Seasons<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Mrig Bahar:<\/strong> Oranges, mangosteens, pomegranates, chickpeas, guavas, lemons, citrons, and grapes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ambia Bahar:<\/strong> Oranges, mangosteens, cashews, pomegranates, mangoes, bananas, grapes, strawberries, and papayas (strawberries and papayas are included on an experimental basis).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The scheme will run for the next two years under the Revenue Board’s oversight. It applies only to productive orchards of specified ages: mangoes, chickpeas, and cashew nuts (5 years), lemons (4 years), oranges, citrus fruits, and guavas (3 years), and grapes and pomegranates (2 years).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Premium Subsidy and Coverage Periods<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The insurance<\/strong><\/a> premium subsidy from the central government is 30%. The state government and farmers will share the remaining cost, with the state covering 5% and the rest split evenly between the government and farmers above 35%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
